The Second Tablets
The Second Tablets
Jeremiah 31:33
“I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”
---
Thou shall
love me like Joseph loved Mary—
when she immaculately conceived
and he had no factual reason to believe.
Love me enough
that even my potential transgressions wouldn’t matter.
I am a sinner, not a saint—
reflect that love in your candor.
---
Thou shall not
betray me like Judas betrayed Jesus.
Do not conspire with my enemies,
or those who wish to dismantle us.
Do not turn from me like Aaron did to Moses,
lusting for another false god
just because you think I’ve abandoned us.
---
Thou shall not
murder what little is left of me
like Cain did to Abel.
We are kindred—
as Cain and Abel were brothers.
Do not offer my love up like a lamb to be slain.
It is not a sacrifice.
It is our promised land.
---
Thou shall
honor me—but not like the false prophets in the temple.
Do not twist my words to suit your sermon.
Honor me like Jesus did the women cast aside.
When others say leave—
let me cling to you.
---
Thou shall not
bear false witness like the Devil did to Job.
Speak only truth to me at my lowest,
so my love for you won't rot.
Do not tempt me with half-truths
like the serpent did to Eve.
I do not care if it leads to my ruin—
just be honest
about the apple you offer me.
---
Thou shall not.
Thou shall.
I am still writing more.
But in this book,
I write my own—
to save my soul from sores.
